Ramen Burgers
Confession: I'm a terrible IG foodie. When it comes to those epic NYC eats (cronut! rainbow bagel! raindrop cake! sushi burger!) I've tried...none of them. Half me opting to almost constantly eat in, half me not wanting to brave the subways on a weekend, I choose to eat these food trends with my eyes. Including the ramen burger.
The ramen burger has been one of these items in particular that I have, really, been dying to try. I love ramen and I LOVE burgers, so I've been living on the assumption that it's likely amazing.
So, I decided to try making it at home.
I can't say that this a particularly care free dish, but it was quicker and less complicated than I anticipated (cue me imagining ended up with just a pile of noodles vs. a controllable bun). I can't say the buns stayed completely together, but it was, overall, delicious, so I'll chalk it up to a win.
I compared a bunch of different recipes and came up with the below (PopSugar, WikiHow, Buzzfeed/Sorted Food). Light Asian flavors, a good slab of cheese, and a low carb ramen bun (because I used Miracle Noodles, of course!).
Ramen Burger (serves 2)
- For the buns:
- 2 packages Miracle Noodles (or ramen or rice noodles of your choice)
- 2 eggs
- Salt and pepper
- 2 T oil
- For the burger:
- 8 oz ground beef
- 1 T soy sauce
- 1/2 T sesame oil
- 1/2 scallion, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper
- To put together:
- 2 slices cheese (I like munster, American is "traditional")
- 2 scallions, thinly sliced on the bias
- 2 T ketchup mixed with 1 T Sriracha
- 2 T mayonnaise (because I like it)
- Any other burger toppings you like
To make the buns, beat the eggs well in a bowl. Add the noodles, salt and pepper and toss to thoroughly combine. Divide the mixture into 4, wrap each in saran wrap, place into separate bowls, and top with something heavy (e.g. tin can) and refrigerate for 15 minutes.
Mix together all of the burger ingredients and divide into 2 patties.
Heat the oil for the buns in a large nonstick pan over medium high heat. Very carefully add the buns (I'd do 2 at a time). Cook on the first side until very brown and crispy (about 5 minutes for me), flip and cook the second side to be the same. Cook the other 2 buns and set them aside.
In the same pan, fry the burgers to your liking (I like about 2.5 minutes per side for medium rare).
To complete the burger, place 2 buns on a plate. Smear one side with spicy ketchup, the other with mayo. Add the burger, cheese, and sliced scallions on top of one bun and top with the other. Enjoy!
